• No hats, sunglasses, or accessories that obscure the face.
• Natural skin tones with no heavy filters or red-eye.

Common reasons Brazil passport photos get rejected

Even a technically correct photo can be turned away for these issues. They come up repeatedly in official rejection notices.

• Using the 3x4 cm Brazilian format for a foreign visa application — embassies in Brazil each have their own size requirements, and submitting a 3x4 Brazilian photo for a US visa (which requires 2 x 2 in) will be rejected.
• Background that is not plain white — the Brazilian federal standard specifically requires white, and shadows behind the subject are the most common cause of rejection at local government offices.
• Red-eye from direct flash, which is common when photos are taken quickly in low-quality photo booths.
• Photo printed at the wrong aspect ratio — 3 cm x 4 cm is not the same as 35 x 45 mm; using the wrong preset produces a photo that looks correct but is the wrong size.
• Head not centred or slightly turned — state-level document offices (for RG, etc.) often apply strict centring requirements.
