Common reasons Luxembourg passport photos get rejected

  • Background that is not uniformly plain light grey or white — Luxembourg communes apply strict biometric background checks, and home photos with any shadow, texture, or colour in the background are rejected.
  • Face height outside 32–36 mm — the 70–80% framing rule is enforced, and faces that are too small or too large in the frame are returned.
  • No glasses rule violation — glasses with glare or tinted lenses are rejected; the ICAO standard Luxembourg follows specifically prohibits tinted lenses.
  • Photo more than six months old.
  • Photo not printed on photographic paper — standard inkjet or laser paper prints are not accepted for in-person submissions.
